In pictures: Rebels share snaps as Northern Lights dye Cork skies every colour of the rainbow - Cork Beo

Were you lucky enough to get a pic last night?

We had one of the best Northern Lights displays in history over Cork last night. But if you missed it, don't worry - we've got some of the coolest pics showing them off right here.

Rebels across the county have sent us snaps of yesterday's stunning Aurora Borealis that had everyone out at all hours trying to get a good pic on their phone. There were sightings from most towns and villages in Cork, and - if we're lucky - we could be in for more Northern Lights tonight.

This stunning phenomenon was triggered by an intense geomagnetic storm following one of the biggest Solar Flare events in a quarter-century. The colours we see in the skies - as explained by experts at Blackrock Castle - are really just charged particles from the sun bouncing off of the Earth's atmosphere.

The latest forecasts show that the best time to look for Northern Lights tonight is between midnight and 1am. Keep in mind that may change, so be sure to check out displays on the Space Weather Prediction Center's site for the latest updates.

If you're looking to maximise your chances tonight, here's what we recommend:

In the meantime, you can check out photos from last night's Northern Lights below. Cheers to everyone who sent on pics over Facebook and Twitter!
