SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake Halloween Rock Bottom Walkthrough

Spooky Scary Trick-Or-Treaters send shivers down the spine. Here's the walkthrough for The Cosmic Shake's spookiest level.

SpongeBob SquarePants is a franchise that is unafraid to occasionally dip into the horror elements of storytelling. The Cosmic Shake is no exception, dumping SpongeBob and the player into a familiar and unsettling location at one of the worst possible times, Halloween.

On a quest to rescue his pet snail, Gary, SpongeBob will have to navigate one of his least-favorite places in the ocean on the spookiest day of the year. Here's how to complete Halloween Rock Bottom in The Cosmic Shake.

Following a trail of slime to a cave system, passing over broken buses as a makeshift bridge, SpongeBob is introduced to a new foe, a deep-sea fish instead of another Jelly Monster. These fish can only see the bright cone area in front of themselves and will hit anyone they spot with a freeze-ray attack, which can be avoided with basic stealth to avoid their line of sight. Additionally, using nearby bushes to avoid their detection while out in the open is a possibility when available. After the first time using the bush technique, SpongeBob will learn that these creatures can be instantly defeated by scaring them from behind when prompted.

Taking a jump pad to reach the main Rock Bottom neighborhood, SpongeBob discovers the slime trail they've been following was left by Gary. Following Gary's trail, including over a perilous pipe that SpongeBob has to slowly teeter across, leads the player to a metal elevator. Taking it upwards leads SpongeBob to another button that, when pressed, turns on the town's lights and draws the fish monsters' attention, as well as bringing SpongeBob to Mrs. Fluff, Mrs. Puff dressed as a tube of toothpaste.

Mrs. Fluff is organizing a snail race, and the entry fee is 5 candy bars. The player now has to take SpongeBob around town, knocking on doors to trick or treat his way into the race. There are a number of houses the player can knock on, but only 5 will yield candy, the rest being dead-ends at best and spawning Jelly Monsters at worst. The 5 actual houses SpongeBob needs to visit are as follows.

With the five candy bars in hand, Mrs. Fluff will let SpongeBob enter the snail race as she transforms him into a snail. Mashing the A button (X on Playstation) to keep up the momentum, players will have to navigate SpongeBob over treadmill platforms and revolving pipes and dodge enemy snails and pitfalls. There are no other snails attempting to beat SpongeBob to the finish line, nor is there a timer, so players do not have to worry about rushing through the racetrack and can afford to take their time. Once players pass the finish line, SpongeBob will return to normal and can keep following Gary's trail.

After encountering a new Jelly Monster variant (a Boxing Jelly that can be broken into two smaller Jellies), SpongeBob will follow the slime trail up some jump-pads and find another section of Rock Bottom that could use some light. The 4 light bulbs have their own glowing power cable for players to follow, leading SpongeBob to a button to turn on the light. After all 4 lights are turned on, a light projector in front of a theater stage will activate.

Investigating the theater reveals Sandy, dressed as a ninja and going by the name Candy. Agreeing to open the way to the theater where a supposed monster is hiding, SpongeBob helps reset the Monster Theater, a puzzle that depicts the Hash-Slinging-Slasher. Players will have to move the parts of the puzzle around to have the projected shadow match the image on the red board to the right of the stage. To complete the picture, order the farthest back piece to the far right, the piece in front of that to the far left, the head-piece moved back and to the middle position, and the torso directly in front of it. With the puzzle complete, the pathway is opened by Candy, and SpongeBob can move through the sewage and pipes and upwards to a sliding segment, where SpongeBob will glide on his tongue as a surfboard. Fighting through a horde of Jelly Monsters or avoiding them, players lead SpongeBob back onto the sliding area, segmented with Karate Kicks and Hook jumps until reaching the front door of the museum.

Entering the museum puts Players on the defensive, forced to eliminate patrolling freeze-ray fish to activate a button in the middle of the room to progress. This leads to a confrontation with Gary, revealed to be the mysterious monster that's been mentioned by Rock Bottom citizens all night, grown to massive proportions after consuming tons of candy. Gary's boss fight is based on the freeze-ray fish enemies, having to dodge his cone of vision to destroy vending machines to cut off his candy binge.

Each vending machine is on another floor of the museum, and players will have to dodge Gary's acid attacks, sporadic Jelly Monsters, and enemy snails that serve to block the player's progress. Waiting for Gary's vision to move past before progressing is essential, as his freeze-ray attack is the biggest obstacle players will face. With the last vending machine destroyed, SpongeBob and Patrick will take themselves and monster Gary back to Bikini Bottom.
