Octopath Traveler 2: Final Chapter Walkthrough
After all the individual stories of the protagonists come to an end, there's one final tale and one final challenge to overcome.
For the most part, the stories of the Octopath Traveler 2 protagonists are separate from one another, and during one traveler's chapter the rest are only present to help out with random encounters, boss fights, and moral support. However, after every main story comes to an end, the Final Chapter unlocks and ties all eight stories into a single winding narrative.
To unlock the Final Chapter, players will need to finish all eight storylines for all eight travelers, then also complete the four Crossed Paths stories in which the travelers pair up. With all that done, the Final Chapter of Octopath Traveler 2 will become available as soon as players visit the campsite in the Southern Cropdale Trail region. Pay close attention to the game's warning to save in a different slot, because the only way to see daylight after starting the Final Chapter is to beat one of the toughest boss fights in the game.

Putting an end to the eternal night can be tricky since players will need to track down and relight four torches spread across the entire map and fight some tough enemies and bosses to do so. However, all four locations are places players have already visited, and there are concentrations of dark energy surrounding them on the map. If that's not enough of a hint, the four locations have also had their Danger Level upgraded to 51, and so players can zoom in and check locations until they find the right ones.
Something else to be aware of is that the rules of the game have changed. Starting from the Final Chapter, the eight protagonists will travel together, and players can swap out the active party at any time using "Formation" in the main menu. Players can also manage the whole party's equipment, jobs, and skills from the main menu, but only the active party will benefit when the travelers rest at an inn.
Players can visit the four locations in any order, but the first one they should visit is probably Flamechurch. One of the eternal flames that need relighting is the one in the Flamechurch Cathedral Grounds, but players should take a moment to rest and save before fast traveling to town. There's a person here who will explain what's going on, but there's also a boss fight that begins immediately after the cutscenes end.
The fight is against a woman named Arcanette. She has 8 shields and is weak to polearms, axes, cold, and lightning. She'll summon Servants of the Night to help her throughout the fight, but a good party with a Scholar or two should have no trouble blasting through her shields and keeping her stunned.
Once Arcanette falls, players should proceed to the Cathedral. Note that while the Pilgrims' Way now has a Danger Level of 51, if players completed the "Pilgrim Protection" side story before the final chapter then the area won't have any random encounters.
In the Cathedral Grounds, players will see two statues on either side of the unlit flame. These statues represent the Aeber the god of thieves and Aelfric the god of clerics, and they'll glow when Throné and Temenos are in the active party together.
Once that's done, players should check their inventory, because the Valuables section has started to glow. The mirror that Throné and Temenos collected during their Crossed Paths story has become the Shiny Mirror item, and by using it from the inventory it'll relight the flame. Players should also collect the Tanzy's Journal item next to the torch to get some context for the scene that plays when the torch relights.

Next, players should head to the Tranquil Grotto in the Eastern Ku Sands region. Players may remember it from when Hikari and Agnea were looking for a lute player during their Crossed Paths story. Both the Eastern Ku Sands and the Tranquil Grotto areas are now full of tough shadow monsters with a lot more health and more shields than their normal versions, and Ochette is fully unable to capture them. These monsters are the reason for the Danger Level upgrade, and players will encounter them near all three of the remaining torches.
On the bright side, the Grotto has no boss enemy waiting at the end, so speed through it to find a torch and two more statues at the end. The statues are in the same pairs as the Crossed Paths storylines, so bring out Hikari and Agnea to use the Shiny Mirror and see who doused this torch.
The third location players should visit is the Fellsun Ruins, the site of the infamous massacre Temenos uncovered. There's no one living here, but there are a total of 17 journal fragments players can collect on their way to the torch. These fragments explain the connections between the eight main stories, and while not every villain is part of the conspiracy, there's at least one character in each story who is.
Once again, there's no boss monster at the end of this dungeon, but there is a ruined wall with a doused torch behind it. In this case, the two party members to have active are Osvald and Partitio. Keep in mind that the new Formation function means that players can use any party they like as they travel through the ruins and only swap to the needed characters in front of the flame.

The last of the four flames is back where Ochette's story began, in the Tombs of the Wardenbeasts. Unlike the last two areas, there's a boss called the Grotesque Monster at the end of this area, so be prepared for a fight. The Grotesque Monster has 7 shields and is weak to axes, bows, cold, and light, and it'll call in Twisted Spawn when the combat starts. Overall, this fight is no harder than the one against Arcanette.
After beating the monster, players can relight the flame, and this time the party must include Ochette and Castti. The cutscene will show the final fate of the Dark Hunter from Ochette's storyline, and with all four torches lit players will see a light emerge from the flame.
Players may have trouble figuring out which way the flame is pointing, but luckily they don't have to. The flames are visible on the map, and they point to a spot in the middle of the central sea. The spot is close to both Canalbrine and the New Delsta Harbor, but either way players should remember to rest, equip their best items, and buy all the consumables they'll need before heading over. The flames are pointing to Vidania, the battleground of the gods, and the final boss of the game is waiting on it. There's a save point on the island and no random encounters, and so the Final Chapter is nearly over.
The final boss Vide is a tough fight, so tough that it requires all eight travelers to defeat. However, if everyone is level 51 or so and has the jobs and equipment to match, players should be able to pull it off. Once Vide is down, light will return to the world, and players are free to continue playing the game with all eight travelers in the party. The one bit of story remaining is the Epilogue, which players can watch by heading back to the campground where the Final Chapter began. With that, there's nothing more to say except, "Congratulations for beating the game!"
