The Darkness into Light fundraising drive returns to Cork in May after a break of three years due to the pandemic - and the services it supports are now needed as much, if not more, than they ever have been.
The late night/early morning run will take place on May 6th, supporting Pieta's continued provision of free counselling to those in need. The annual event had been cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions for the past three years but plans are now in place for runs at 23 locations across Cork in the early hours of Saturday, May 6th.
On Leeside, the event starts and finishes in the picturesque surrounds of the Quad at UCC and is one of the largest outside of the Phoenix Park in Dublin.
Darkness into Light will take place in 23 locations in Cork in 2023 and these include:
Chair of the Organiser Cllr Mick Finn says they want Cork to give all the support we can to Pieta and we could see record numbers after the enforced three-year hiatus.
"Walkers and runners have missed this event which people do for many reasons personal to themselves and we are happy to be in a position to organise an event this year following all the lockdowns and restrictions," said Cllr Mick Finn.
"We have a small group of hugely dedicated volunteers organising this significant event and we will be looking for volunteer stewards on the morning. UCC has been fantastic once again in accommodating the walk and run and we are lucky to have such a great route in the heart of the city."
Event plans are being finalised in consultation with the City Council and Gardai to ensure the route and the experience will be a safe one for all. It will be officially launched by the Lord Mayor Cllr Deidre Forder on March 21 st at UCC.
Registrations to take part in DIL are now open on the Darkness Into Light Webpage.
